The Fashion Industry

The Fashion Industry

Understanding the fashion industry is like understanding how business functions itself. Making money in this industry, is best to know how people are attractive towards fashion itself. Knowing how people would like to present themselves to the broader world is a humble beginning.
The fashion industry is at present a multi billion international spanning one which comprises of every imaginable thing associated with it, right from the concept of how clothes should look which we call designing to making, promoting and selling of them.
In the good old days, there was a distinction between the clothes for the masses and the ones worn by the high and mighty, like the nobles and the elites of society. There were people associated to serve them. Specific designs and materials were assigned for this purpose. The masses basically made their own clothes as they could not afford the expensive materials that were imported from unknown destinations. But in both cases, the clothes were hand made. The ones for the fashion industry back then were made by tailors who were experts in cutting and hand sewing.
But slowing this trend began to change as stitching and making of fabrics tended to be massed produce becoming both inexpensive and cheaper to buy. Slowly by the mid-nineteen seventies began to fade and it become fashion industry as a whole irrespective of which segment of people it catered to.
So fashion can be defines as the style of a person and the style of the clothes he wears. So when we refer to  person and like the clothing he wear, we simply say that he is a fashionable person. Or, he may be wearing something which is not to the liking of others and so there question which may arise in mind is what kind of fashion is he wearing. When clothes are in fashion, the greater majority of people tend to wear such clothes and you may have difficulty finding the kind of clothes which you are using to wearing.
Yet, there is a difference in the fashion industry where it is broken into two segments - one which is expensive to buy for the majority of people and the other which is specifically made for them. The former is the handy work of those known designers who make it to the ranks and have fashion shows in New York and Paris, and expensive models walk the ramp displaying their work of art.
This segment of clothes are mainly worn by the who is who and those pockets that can afford them. The others since they have a budget to stick to have to make do with the ones sold in the malls and supermarkets having to compromise to an extend where they are manufactured and with lesser good materials.
In which ever way you come to think of it, the fashion industry is all about designing. This class of people first make clothes to look good on people which terms like vogue, trendy, chic, boho and other come into describing them. Some might hit the market and make a great hit. It all depends on how the design is accepted in the market place.
Then there is the manufacturing process, it can be done where the idea or the clothes comes into being or it can be outsources to other countries where labour is less expensive and the manufacturer can make a wider profit margin.
Then comes the next one in the fashion industry, the distribution of the manufactured clothes. It is how much should be sent where and all about the statistics what would best suit the capitalists who put money into the business of the fashion industry.
Then there is the wholesaling and retailing of it. Each section needs to make profit in this industry. So careful planning must be done as to who should have the advantage of making how much money. Usually the profit margin of the wholesaler is less per piece of clothing but makes a makes more on selling it in larger pieces. They retailer sells less but makes a larger profit on each piece. So it becomes a matter of sharing the responsibility of profit.
Then there are people who are responsible for the promotion of the clothes from the fashion industry. This is done by advertising. That is why famous people are the best ones for this industry. So who wears what to the Oscars or what kind of clothes is wore in a certain film or a soap opera. It is said that a large portion of the TV industry makes its income and revenue from the fashion industry.
Finally coming to look at it in another way. The fashion industry is a myriad of industries that presently helps millions of people to earn directly or indirectly and it helps all people on this earth to be clothed. So for the good or bad it is an essential industry that serves humanity as a whole.
